Comprehensive eye exams

Yearly eye exams are an important part of your overall health and wellness.

The standard of care is to have a comprehensive eye exam once a year and we strongly recommend having your eyes dilated.

The dilation drops take about 15-20 minutes to take effect and last for about 3-4 hours. They will make your vision a little blurry (up close more than far away) and light sensitive. Most people are okay driving afterwards.

We ask that you please allot at least 1 hour of time for your eye exam and bring sunglasses with you. You may want to bring someone to drive you if you are nervous about driving after the dilation.

If you are new to our office, please bring in your previous glasses, glasses prescriptions, contact lenses, and/or contact lens prescriptions as well as an updated medication list.

At this exam, we will be able to give you a glasses prescription and assess your ocular health for various conditions such as dry eye, pinguecula, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, ocular melanoma, retinal detachments, and more. Glasses prescriptions are valid for up to 2 years.

This exam will be billed to your medical insurance or vision plan. We also accept out-of-pocket patients.

Medical eye exams & special testing

In addition to your yearly eye exam, we may recommend specialty testing.

These tests help diagnose, treat, and monitor ocular conditions and diseases.

Our office is equipped with several specialty tests including retinal photography, visual fields, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging , scleral depression, pachymetry, and gonioscopy.

These tests are billed to your medical insurance.

close up face and finger with contact lens

Contact lenses are considered a medical device regulated by the FDA and as such, they require an additional prescription that expires after 1 year.

We offer soft disposable contact lenses and rigid gas permeable contact lenses.

If you haven’t worn contact lenses before, fear not! We fit you in a lens that will provide optimal vision and comfort. Additionally, we teach you how to put them in, take them out, and take care of them!

Keep in mind, most vision plans do not fully cover a contact lens assessment so there is often some out-of-pocket expense.

Note: There is no minimum or maximum age to wear contact lenses, it’s all about motivation and responsibility.
